The Municipality of Borba actively participates in the Trocano Araretama Project by representing the interests of the communities, its people within the project area and the entire municipality itself. Being a member of the Project Management Council, the Town Hall and its administrative bodies are vital in the implementation of monitoring activities and in the socio-economic development of the local communities. The Borba region is located 215 km from Manaus, the capital of the Brazilian Amazonas State, and is a pioneer in implementing forest conservation and biodiversity protection projects using the latest REDD+ technology.

The NGO Iakira is the Brazilian Non-Governmental Organisation responsible for implementing the Trocano Araretama Project. Iakira is run by the people of Borba for the people of Borba, which allows for the most effective implementation of the project. By empowering the people of Borba, the project encourages them to create efficient solutions to help combat the environmental and social problems currently seen within their communities. Furthermore, Iakira’s involvement will facilitate communication between those working in the project area itself, and those working from the Dublin-based office, allowing the project to run more efficiently.
