If there was any doubt that conservation is a big issue, the startling statistics in our new Slideshare (below) prove that the protection of rainforests requires thinking on a global scale. At Celestial Green Ventures, we know that conservation has wide-reaching implications in terms of biodiversity, climate, social development and atmosphere.
Our quick guide gives you some of the most important and impactful facts about our Trocano Araretama REDD+ project, where we protect a vast area of the rainforest, and why this is so necessary. It could take you just one minute to view this presentation, but in that minute an area the size of 36 football fields will be deforested somewhere in the world.
Our 1.3 million hectare area of pristine forest stands in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, one of the most heavily deforested areas in the world. This diverse ecosystem is a rich source of natural capital, containing resources that have global value – from unique microorganisms to a plentiful water supply. 68% of all plant species are found in the rainforest, and over 120 prescription drugs currently sold worldwide are derived directly from rainforest plants. Our project area alone protects the habitats of five species of animal on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, as well as being home to 107 communities.
It isn’t just those living locally who feel the benefits of our forest conservation. Keeping forests standing means that they can continue to produce oxygen, absorb CO2, maintain stable soil structures and water cycles, and provide food and products, all of which are crucial to the balance of the Earth’s ecosystem as a whole. By carrying out our REDD+ project according to the Natural Forest Standard guidelines, Celestial Green Ventures generates social, biodiversity and carbon benefits, with over 31,000,000 tons of CO2 emissions being avoided by the project since it was established in 2011. As a result, we can offer businesses a unique opportunity to play their part in conservation through investing in Natural Capital Credits.
