    Trocano Araretama REDD+ Project Logo

We at Celestial Green Ventures are proud to present the first logo designed especially for the Trocano Araretama REDD+ Project. Using the colours orange, blue and green, the new logo shows a macaw and an indigenous drum, two important symbols of Borba’s history and culture.

The inspiration for the logo came from Márcio Garcia, a local artist, and José Rocha, or “Goiano”, head of the Rural Producers Union, in Borba. When he was asked to design a banner for the project, Márcio graciously obliged and came up with the foundations of the logo we have today.

    Trocano Araretama

Both the words Trocano and Araretama come from the indigenous language Tupi. Trocano is actually a kind of indigenous drum made out of hollow tree trunks, with a leather canvas stretched across the top and fixed in place with wooden stakes.

In the past, indigenous tribes in the Madeira Basin area commonly used this musical instrument to send messages by producing a combination of different beats and sounds. The meaning of these messages could vary from calling a meeting to an alert of approaching enemies.

Araretama in turn means land of macaws, an allusion to the abundant number of these red-feathered birds in the Madeira area. The word originally derives from the Tupi terms arara and tetama, which signify macaw and land, respectively.

Trocano and Araretama were both old names for what is now the town of Borba. Dating back to the first half of the 18th century, the municipality was originally called Trocano Village, in 1728, date of its foundation, and subsequently Araretama, from 1833.

Therefore, as a way to preserve the historic roots and tradition of the municipality, as well as connect them to the project itself, Celestial Green Ventures, together with the Borbenses (the natives from Borba), decided to name the project in honour of its proud history.

The following two tabs change content below.

    Celestial Green Ventures
